LNG Powered Escort Tugs

BB has developed this,- the world’s first LNG powered escort tugs are employed for long term terminal service at Statoil’s Kaarstoe terminal. The tugs are powered by lean burn gas engines from Rolls Royce Marine and are built at Sanmar Denizcilik A.S. Shipyard in Turkey. The environmental benefits of an LNG powered tug are;
  • 92% reduced NOx emission
  • 20% reduction of CO2 emissions
  • 98% reduced particulates
  • compliant with Tier III regulations

Also, the new hull and propulsion system can achieve up to 20% higher thrust efficiency compared to standard designs. The LNG system is designed by AGA Cryo and comprises an 80m3 LNG tank, two cold boxes and bunkering system. The system is fully redundant (i.e. no diesel back up is required). The tugs have DnV Gas fuelled notation.
